David Henry - Composer/Sound Designer

I have been working as a Sound Designer and Composer at Sierra since 1995, and have a degree in Jazz Arranging and Composition from the University of North Texas. Previously at Sierra, I have worked on Torin's Passage, Betrayal in Antara, Leisure Suit Larry 7, and Shivers II.
It's a real thrill to be working on this project, and to be working with Robert Holmes on the music. Gabriel Knight games have always had a level of depth and storytelling that surpasses other adventures, which makes this interesting to create music and sound for. The 3D engine we are using allows me to think of music in a completely new way, and put together a score that will advance with the player as they move through the story. Themes will develop as the player sees the story unfold, giving us an unprecedented level of musical interactivity.
My instrumental training is primarily as a saxophonist (if you've played Torin or Antara you've heard me), but recently I picked up an instrument called an EWI - Electronic Wind Instrument. It allows me to control synthesizer and sampler patches as if I were playing a saxophone. For certain types of instruments, this gives me a level of expressive control I've never had before, and has opened up a whole new set of musical tools for me to work with. In Gabriel Knight 3, there will be a lot of EWI work - I just can't put down my new toy! In addition to working on the music, I will be engineering the voice over sessions for Gabriel Knight 3 staring in early November. I'm really looking forward to meeting and working with the Gabriel Knight cast.
I live in Seattle with my wife, Diane, and our 17 month old son, Forrest (that's Forrest and me in the picture, with matching hats!). He'll begin his drum lessons any day now.
