Stuart M. Rosen - Voice over director

Stuart M. Rosen"Gabriel Knight 3" is the fourth game I've cast and dialogue directed for Sierra Online and, without question, the dramatically most complex. As always, the author, Jane Jensen, has outdone herself. She has created, yet again, incredibily interesting characters and intelligent, witty dialogue. To me she's one of the premier writers of what I like to call "interactive literature" or "interactive fiction" (as she calls it)! It's so much more than a game; it' an experience. I hope that all of you have as much fun playing GK3 as I did directing it.

When the actors and I were confronted with the script, containing 7000+ dialogue lines and weighing more than 14 pounds, the climb up this paper Mt. Everest seemed indeed quite daunting! Each actor recorded up to 100 scripted lines---one after the other---for four hours at a crack. I promise you, that can be the supreme test of an actor's vocal endurance and concentration. In other words, it's a killer.

At the end, however, we had the same exhilarating feeling that mountain climbers do. We virtually cheered as we stared at the hundreds and hundreds of pages we'd completed. After all, we had recorded what roughly would be the equivalent of 6 to 9 feature films! If that's not a mountain of dialogue, I don't know what is!!

Aside from the incredible logistics, I think all of us who worked on recording the characters are proud of our work. I hope that GK3 will join GK1 and 2 as classics in this challenging new interactive form of literate entertainment.

During his many years of working in TV, Rosen has produced some 485 half-hours of television and has voice cast and/or dialogue directed nearly 800 half-hours of animation. For this work he has been the recipient of 10 Emmy Awards, the George Foster Peabody Award (often referred to as the Pulitzer Prize of broadcasting), the Ohio State Award and named to Who's Who in America. For nine years he sat on the Board of Governers for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has been an actor, director, producer and writer. He resides in West Hollywood, California.
